When Sachin Kundalkar came to producer Vidhi Kasliwal with a  Vazandaar concept, she was game. Only thing is she wanted the story to be set in a younger age bracket. The director agreed, and seeds of Vazandaar, the Marathi film were sown. Today, as Vazandaar is set for a Nov 11 release, producer Vidhi Kasliwal is elated.

“The idea was to keep the film as real as possible, with the actresses putting on and losing weight in real as well as reel life. I was worried that no top actresses would agree to it.  But Sachin was sure and rightly so!”  Both Sai Tamhankar  and Priya Bapat agreed instantly. “The only thing was that both the actresses loved the opposite roles. The actresses liked the other characters, and got cast in the role of their choice.”

Vazandaar is a simple story on how we should love ourselves and look beyond our body image because self image is bigger than body image. “You have to look beautiful to yourself and accept yourself as you are. This film is bigger than just a film,” elaborates Vidhi who feels that though the protagonists are women, the film has universal appeal.

“Self image or body image is gender-blind. Men have equally had issues with their body… either receding hairline or shoulders are not that broad or not tall enough… the list could go on” Kundalkar, avers Vidhi, understands women psyche really well. She cites the references of Aiyya and Happy Journey. “He is a very sensitive person, attuned to feelings. That makes a very big difference.”

Vazandaar is about the friendship of two girls who are from different backgrounds, and how both of them help each other out. Their weighty issue almost costs them their friendship. how, both the women work to restore the friendship and keep that bond and girl power alive, forms the crux of the story.

National Green Highway Mission at India CSR Summit 2016

27th September 2016, Mumbai, focusing on green highways, participants from corporate houses, bank and public sector units provided valuable insights on implementing the necessary policies to make the highways greener on the first day of the two-day India CSR Summit and CSR Partnerships Exhibition 2016 at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East).

The National Green Highways Mission (NGHM) under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is the nodal agency for effective implementation and monitoring of Green Highways Project.

Dr Ajoy K Bhattacharya, MD at National Green Highways Mission moderated the session that saw participation from eminent stakeholders. “Our mission is to be responsible for implementing the green highways policy. We have around 1 lakh kilometres of highways available for greening and may be in the next ten years, we will have 2 lakh kilometres,” said Dr Ajoy K Bhattacharya, MD at NGHM.

Ms. Induja Rai, advisor at NGHM made an insightful presentation on Adopting a Green Highway where she discussed different possible ways in which corporates and individuals can adopt the initiative. This includes adoption under the corporate social responsibility, public private partnership and by individuals themselves. One of the positive sides of greening the highways is the ability to create sustainable employment opportunities for around 1 lakh people.

The participants included Mr. R Murahari, General Manager at Power Finance Corporation, Mr. Anup Gurvugari, Senior Vice-President at Yes Bank, Mr. Suneel Pande, Vice-President at ITC, Mr. Ajay Kumar Mahapatra, Managing Director at Odisha Forest Development Corporation and Mr. Suresh Chauhan, Fellow and Area Convener of Forestry and Biodiversity group of Water Resources and Forestry Division in TERI.

National Green Highways Mission:
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India has recently promulgated Green Highways (Plantations, Transplantations, Beautification and Maintenance) Policy – 2015 to develop green corridors along National Highways for sustainable environment and inclusive growth. National Green Highways Mission (NGHM) under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been entrusted with the task of planning, implementation and monitoring roadside plantations along one lakh km network of National Highways.

Roadside plantations have immense potential to enhance the green cover of nation and generate employment opportunities for rural community. NGHM intends to afforest approximately four lakh acre land and develop one lakh direct employment opportunity in plantations sector in next ten years. We also plan to use / adopt innovative and best green highways technology practiced worldwide such as storm water management, use of green energies, irrigation techniques, etc.

NGHM under its programme intends to collaborate with corporates and PSUs under their CSR program for developing Green Highways for Sustainable Environment & Inclusive Growth. Organisations can “Adopt a Green Highway” (for developing Roadside Plantations along National Highways) under their CSR Program. This initiative will help in fulfilling India’s commitment at CoP 21 Summit for voluntary carbon emissions reduction of up to 35 % by 2030.

Organizations funding roadside plantations will be facilitated in advertising their brands along highways at strategic locations. NGHM is also working towards developing a mechanism through which the Organizations contributing towards greening of NHs, can earn carbon credits appropriately, which will help them fulfilling their environmental obligations, besides economic gains.nghm-india-csr-2016-1

Mumbai, 28 September: We know how insurance companies try to avoid paying claims on flimsy grounds. Paresh Rawal-starrer Oh my God shows how the policy wordings, Act of God, were effectively used by insurance companies to deny a claim arising out of an earthquake.

Here comes Claimvasooli.com, a first-of-it-kind venture which helps the insured claim their lawful insurance policy claims that are denied by insurance companies using unfair tactics. Founded by insurance veteran and entrepreneur Mr. Pushkaraj Shete, ClaimVasooli seeks to fight against erring insurance companies which fail to honour lawful claims.

Pushkaraj Shete explains the rationale behind the idea: “Our sole motto is – If you are right, we will fight with all our might. With a lot of insurance policies being sold directly by insurance companies via online and offline mode there is a pressing need for an intermediary to honour claims. As per IRDA website data, policy holders face a lot of claims-related grievances. Every day I come across several cases of insurance claims being rejected by insurance companies. Such claims are genuinely payable but are stuck due to policy holders’ inability to pursue. So I thought of launching a dedicated platform to serve this aggrieved class.”

Founded a year ago to fill the gap between insurance companies and claimer, the start-up helped around 300 such claimer across 30 geographical areas in India.

Majority of insurance claims remain stuck with insurers on account of policy wordings’ fine prints, improper documentation, inappropriate presentation of claims, irregular follow ups, etc. Many times the policyholder does not protest and appeal against the insurance company for rejecting their rightful claim due to paucity of time, litigation costs involved, and lack of awareness about their rights to appeal.

ClaimVasooli takes up such genuine cases of rightful claims being denied by insurance companies citing one reason or the other. Recently, ClaimVasooli resolved the case relating to one Mehta. “My health insurance claim was turned down by an insurance company. As an individual I had a limitation to litigate and appeal against the giant insurance company. Someone told me about ClaimVasooli and I approached them.”

Mehta’s health insurance had covered his 75-year-old mother, who was a cancer patient. But the claim was rejected by the insurance company citing a previous health condition. ClaimVasooli took up this case with the insurance company and after due process the full claim was paid to her.

“Not all cases are payable. We examine the authenticity of claims before proceeding. If we find merit in the case, we shall do everything what it takes to resolve the claim. Many times we go up to the level of litigation at ombudsman, consumer courts, etc. I charge a small fee to cover my costs after the insurance company pays the claim proceeds.” adds Pushkaraj.

In addition to the specialist in-house team, ClaimVasooli has an advisory board of insurance veterans such as Mariette Nazareth, Kamlesh Kharade, and Suraj Saraogi who oversee complex matters of claim.

ClaimVasooli currently handles cases relating to non-life insurance matters only. On including life insurance, Pushkaraj said: “Insurance is a technical subject and we understand non-life insurance such as motor, health, travel, fire, etc. We don’t want to advice on matters we don’t understand.”
